Job Description Job Description Senior Staff Accountant Position Description The Senior Staff Accountant manages financial accounting tasks related to construction projects, including financial reporting, cost analysis, and budgeting. Ensure accuracy in financial data, maintain internal controls, and support the accounting team. Key responsibilities include monthly close processes, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analysis. Duties/Responsibilities Financial Reporting and Analysis: Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Assist in preparation of monthly WIP report. Conduct variance analysis to identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions. Review and reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly. Monitor and eliminate internal and intercompany transactions. Ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with GAAP. Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes. Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts. Monitor actual performance against budget and report on significant variances. Provide financial insights to support decision-making and strategic planning. Maintain/distribute daily cash flow report and reconcile to general ledger monthly. Reconcile accounts receivable and accounts payable balances. Manage cash flow by monitoring collections and payments. Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory requirements. Assist with audits and provide necessary documentation to auditors and participating as needed. Monitor and report on the financial performance and usage of construction assets. Ensure proper allocation of costs to expenses or betterments. Maintain fixed asset schedules and roll forwards. Provide schedules for audit, income tax, property tax, and monthly financial reports. Ensure depreciation and revenues are properly posted. Calculate and record additions and deletions appropriately. Prepare monthly sales & use taxes for submission. Assist with quarterly tax reporting and filing to include federal and multi-state requirements. Assist with tax audits and provide necessary documentation. Mentor and support accounting staff, providing guidance on complex accounting issues. Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment of financial goals and objectives. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance financial processes and reporting. General Ledger Management: Budgeting and Forecasting: Accounts Payable and Receivable: Compliance and Internal Controls: Fixed Assets: Tax Compliance: Team Collaboration and Leadership: Responsible for company data management and record keeping systems, electronic and hard copy. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required skills/abilities Strong time management and organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and comfortable working independently and as part of a team. Able to manage sensitive and confidential data, information and situations with tact and professionalism. Strong communication skills: must be able to maintain a positive demeanor with clients, vendors, and staff both written and oral. Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting. Solid understanding of accounting cycles to include job costing, accounts payable, accounts receivable. Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) or related software. Competence in financial and accounting software. Strong attention to detail with high degree of accuracy. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent related experience in lieu of a degree. Progressive accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry. Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone to talk and hear. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a non-exempt, hourly position. The employee must be available to work from 8 am to 5 pm and is expected to work 40 hours each week.
