END Technologist I conducts EEG examinations under the general
supervision of a senior staff. The END I is responsible for the
preparation of the patient, conducting EEG examinations, and
collecting information pertinent for the interpretation of the
tests. The Technologist is responsible for performing standard as
well as motivated to pursue the skills necessary to complete more
complicated and complex EEG recordings. Is able to monitor
additional electrophysiological phenomena by means of appropriate
techniques and instrumentation, may assist in the training and
teaching of END students or other junior END I
Technicians.Essential Functions:
- Perform standard EEG recording including:* Summarize the
patient's neurologic status and clinical history from the chart,
the patient, or other knowledgeable persons.* Explain the recording
procedure to the patient, family members present and hospital
staff.* Adapt methods of instrumentation to obtain optimal results
based on history, clinical observations and EEG findings.* Provide
appropriate patient care and detailed observations of clinical
manifestations during seizures/events and other patient emergency
situations 5. Ensure electrical safety of patients at all
times.(50%)
- Demonstrate proficiency in the standard department workflow in
EPIC as well as the skills necessary to complete modification of
orders, rescheduling and all functions in EPIC. (15%)
- Demonstrates proficiency in maintaining daily inter-personal
relationships and communication with clinical team regarding
relevant patient information, patient care and scheduling.
(10%)
- Keep equipment in clean operating condition. (10%)
- Perform maintenance and minor repair of laboratory equipment
and report need for major repairs. (5%)
- Complete daily work flow tasks in EPIC, W-Ren folder,
Neuro-productivity (5%)
- Assist END Supervisor in program development and laboratory
organization. (5%)Education:
- High School Diploma or GED RequiredWork Experience:
- Demonstrates competency with the 10/20 system of electrode
placement
Licenses:
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart
Association
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to perform and have understanding of various different
Neurodiagnostic procedures. Independent judgment and
initiative.
- Review of fundamental EEG textbooks through specific reading
assignments. A background in high school physics is desired but not
mandatory.
- Develop rapport with patients from diverse ethnic,
socioeconomic and educational backgrounds as well as have comfort
in physical patient contact.
- Interact appropriately and efficiently with nurses, physicians
and patient transporters. Proficiency in English is mandatory,
Spanish is desired but not mandatory
- Referral processing, troubleshooting of EEG equipment and
identification of EEG abnormalities are not required at the
beginning END technician I position, but will be acquired with
experience
- Develop skillset required to identify and manage patients in
medical distress
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft programs; word, outlook with an
emphasis on excel
- Comfortable with PC and Microsoft Windows Office applications
is required
