Job Description:
$21-$22 per Hour Plus Shift DifferentialPurpose:The Substance
Abuse Specialist provides direct services to intoxicated and newly
sober persons in an inpatient substance abuse facility.Job
Summary:To provide direct services and assistance to clients in a
milieu environment.Schedules AvailableThursday-Saturday
3pm-1amThursday-Saturday 10pm-8amEssential Functions:Conducts
client screening; including client histories, case notes and
dischargesAssists with client educationProvides support in the
management of the milieu and the work environmentEvaluates crisis
situations and escalated behaviors and provides appropriate
interventions and supportIntervenes in situations to promote health
and recovery face to face contact with clients in order to
facilitate progress toward recoveryWorks collaboratively with
clients and other pertinent staff to coordinate appropriate
careMonitors clients' vital signs and assesses the need for medical
or higher level care and coordinates those sources as
appropriateMaintains up-to-date clinical records on assigned
clientsCompletes documentation of services consistent with clinical
and administrative policies and proceduresPromotes and demonstrates
MHP's mission, vision and values through both behavior and job
performance on a day to day basisEffectively interacts and
communicates with other MHP
staff/clients/customers/partners/etc.Regular and consistent
attendance is required to perform other essential functions of the

degree in a behavioral health field, OR High School diploma and CAS
OR unrelated BA with at least one year work experience in the
behavioral health field requiredCurrent CPR certification, or
ability to obtain CPR certification within 30 days of hireQMAP
certification required; if not already certified must become
certified within 30 days of hireMust receive the flu shot
annuallyRegistration in the State of Colorado DORA database as an
approved addictions counselor or mental health licensure is
required within 90 days of hireKnowledge/Skills/Abilities:Working
knowledge of addictions and their treatmentsAbility to learn and
understand program policies and proceduresAbility to make good
judgments regarding client related issues of a confidential, legal
or medical natureAbility to monitor client vital signsAbility to
work with minimal supervisionMust be able to effectively work with
other staff, partner agencies and the publicExcellent
interpersonal, verbal and written communication skillsMust be able
to work effectively with intoxicated clientsExcellent de-escalation
and problem solving skillsWorking EnvironmentGeneral office
environment and a 24-hour, inpatient substance abuse
facilityIncludes working with people in acute distress or crisisMay
require travel to several MHP sites throughout Boulder and
Broomfield counties to attend meetings
