**The School of Medicine's Department of Ophthalmology has an
opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Research
Services Information Sciences Professional (Open Rank)
position.**
Jobs in the Research Services career family provide direct
professional support of research activities. Functions include
contracts and grants solicitation and administration,
grant/agreement preparation, review and negotiation, regulatory
compliance, sponsor communication and post and pre award
management, human subject compliance, research animal management,
research laboratory coordination and instruction, environmental
health and safety, radiation control, hazardous materials use,
disposal and training.
Professionals at all levels are responsible for exercising
discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and
responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic,
administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work
involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge
directly related to a professional field. At the entry level,
duties are limited in scope and are performed with guidance and
direction from other professionals and are performed in a training
and development capacity. At the intermediate level, duties are
less limited in scope and are performed independently with
occasional guidance and direction from other professionals. At the
senior level, work is performed fully independently.
**Nature of Work**
Information Science Professionals utilize applied or computational
mathematical analyses for a wide array of different applications
and to solve complex problems. Experiments may include text
interpretation, coding, ground theory methodology for the analysis
of certain data, and quantum state analyses. Information Science
Professionals may also perform duties in labs that use primarily
electronic equipment.
**Examples of Duties Performed**
**_Entry Level:_**
+ Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and
other stakeholders in the area of bioinformatics and data
analysis
+ Track project progress and communicate with stakeholders
+ Prepare and disseminate communications with external
stakeholders
+ Ensures appropriate communication with all project stakeholders
regarding timelines and status, deadlines, data requirements,
logistics and all other project-related issues
+ Assist PI with existing and new research projects
+ Perform scientifically rigorous data management and bioinformatic
analyses
+ Assists with data collection, data analysis, and reporting of
preliminary findings, as needed
+ Develop and disseminate a variety of tools designed to access
relevant clinical and sample data
+ Work closely with lab members to gain an understanding of data
processing methods and tools
+ Develop and implement complex analyses pipelines, programming,
and data visualization techniques for multi-layered -omics datasets
(transcriptome, epigenome, proteome, microbiome, etc.)
+ Creatively and effectively integrate data from multiple sources
to accelerate discoveries
+ Assist with the design and development of major
bioinformatics-related programming projects
+ Write custom scripts to access databases and analyze data
+ Write custom web tools for PIs and other stakeholders
**_Intermediate Level, all of the above and:_**
+ Independently and creatively identify bioinformatic and data
management solutions
+ Assist Team Leads, Supervisors and/or management with creation
and implementation of processes and procedures and quality
improvement initiatives
+ Assist and train junior team members
**_Senior Level, all of the above and:_**
+ Assist with developing or develop protocol-specific systems and
documents including process flows, training manuals, and Standard
Operating Procedures (SOPs) . Maintains subject level documentation
and prepares documents, equipment and/or supplies
+ Develops detailed protocol documents that meet
federal/institutional standards
+ Assist with identifying issues related to operational efficiency
and shares results with leadership
+ Provide the biostatistical/data science expertise and leadership
in study design, study oversight, data management, data analysis
and manuscript preparation to assist all levels of biomedical
investigators and clinicians on new research activities across a
wide range of disciplines
+ Serve as a resource to PIs and other stakeholders
**Additional Duties & Responsibilities**
**_All levels with increased independence at higher levels:_**
+ Documents and facilitates the definition of project scope, goals,
and resource requirements.
+ Translates clearly defined project needs into deliverables,
milestones, and timelines by establishing the project plan.
+ Tracks progress of key milestones, ensuring execution of key
deliverables.
+ Manages changes in timelines, deliverables and budget as
needed.
+ Works closely with project leaders to establish quality criteria
and monitor quality of projects.
+ Develops timelines, task lists, and operational plans for the
completion of research projects, grant deliverables, and laboratory
management goals in coordination with the investigators.
+ Facilitates project meetings to continually align the team around
goals and communicate blocking issues.
+ Ensures appropriate funds are in place and tracks financial
status of all projects relative to available budgets.
+ Works with Compliance office to generate and maintain appropriate
IRB for work specific to project plan (if necessary).
+ Ensures that projects and activities adhere to institutional
guidelines with regards to safety and regulatory compliance.
+ Leads and develops agendas and minutes for meetings related to
ongoing projects.
+ Attends meetings and scientific conferences, as needed.
+ Assists with preparation of grant applications and manuscripts,
including data analyses, literature searches, drafting of text,
confirming affiliations and linking of funding to accepted
manuscripts.
+ Assists with Material Transfer Agreements, Data Use Agreements
and Research Collaboration agreements.
+ Maintains communication platforms including newsletters, emails,
and lab websites/social media.

+ One (1) year data management and bioinformatic analyses

+ Two (2) years data management and bioinformatic analyses

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational
Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
+ One (1) to three (3) years of experience analyzing data using
high-performance computing

+ Knowledge of basic statistical principles relevant in medical
research
+ Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply
quantitative analytical approaches
+ Demonstrated fluency in one or more programming languages (e.g.,

**Salary and Benefits**
The salary range ( _or hiring range_ ) for this position has been
established at the following:
**_Entry Level:_** $50,112 to $63,742
**_Intermediate Level:_** $54,534 to $69,367
**_Senior Level:_** $58,955 to $74,991
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set
based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to,
internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range ( _or hiring range_ ) represents the
University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of
possible compensation at the time of posting.
This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
