Job Description Welcome to Care Access, a national network of clinical research sites. We are on a mission to bring a new healthcare system to life by making the clinical research process better, faster, and more efficient. Care Access is currently seeking Patient Educators to participate in a new set of clinical trials for high profile nationwide studies. This person will interact with patients, communities, focus groups, and health organizations, informing and educating people about Care Access clinical trials. Our goal is to engage every healthcare professional in clinical research and to make clinical trials a care option for every patient. Our philosophy regarding clinical trials allows us to maintain relevance and gives us the opportunity to work on groundbreaking and pivotal studies within the US healthcare system. Job Summary: The Regional Patient Educator is a field-based position seated within the Patient Education Department, responsible for creating awareness, providing education, and generating interest in clinical research participation in communities throughout their assigned region. The Regional Patient Educator will originate and pull-through projects by demonstrating their initiative to: Conduct independent research, identifying opportunities for community outreach, with entities such as religious organizations and places of worship, business and professional groups, residential, retirement, and 55 communities, minority community associations, and physician practices, where appropriate and aligned with clinical study inclusion criteria. Perform community outreach activities and calls on new and established community organizations to generate new and deepen existing partnerships; increasing opportunities for clinical trial education in areas that may not otherwise have access to clinical research, resulting in long-standing partnerships in the community. Develop, organize, and participate in educational events established with community partners to deliver clinical trial education to potential participants. Organize and pull-through educational events and partnerships at the regional level, generated by the CARE Patient Access team with large community organizations, strategic health systems, and non-profits. Supervisory Responsibilities The Patient Educator is part of a fast-growing team dedicated to protecting patients, educating patients, producing high-quality research, and collaborating with our sponsors. This Team Member uses experience and independent judgment in the sourcing, planning, and delivery of education to Community Organizations/Leaders, potential clinical trial participants, and Health Care Professionals (HCPs) in group and individual settings Duties/Responsibilities The Regional Patient Educator on a clinical research team will travel to areas within their assigned region to bring awareness and educate patients on clinical trials in their community. Some planning and administrative work will be completed remotely. In addition, the Regional Patient Educator will: Research community organizations via their network, online, or through other resources Represent Care Access and bring clinical trial opportunities to patients at events, large and small Accountable to manage all the pre-event communication with community event organizer, coordination of Care Access personnel, ordering of materials, preparation and set-up, education delivery and break-down. Conduct after-action-reviews and provide feedback to continuously improve Care Access and educational experience of community groups, sponsors, and potential patient participants. Initiate and discuss opportunities for partnering with local community organizations (large and small), doctors--- offices, facilities, etc. Form rapport and provide strong working relationships with Care Access partners Educate community partners, HCPs, potential patient participants on existing clinical trials to facilitate interest and recruitment within their networks Conduct phone calls to check for top-level interest and set up appointments for outreach. Ensure warm handoffs between Care Access team members with patients who desire consideration for participation in clinical trials. Support the larger clinical research team Coordinate with Area Managers and National Patient Education Leads on weekly calls and emails Required Skills/Abilities The ideal candidate is a self-motivated and self-starting Team Member who demonstrates a passion for the mission of clinical trials and healthcare. Interpersonal skills and the ability to form and maintain positive working relationships (such as client-facing, customer service, patient advocacy/education, or sales experience) will be utilized in day-to-day interactions. Medical and/or research experience is a plus but is not required. Proficient using Google Suite and comfortable learning new platforms and technologies Proficient in clinical discussions with patients Candidates must feel comfortable using technology (Zoom, Teams etc.) for potential remote engagement with community partners and patients Strong understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality Ability to manage data collection and related technology in a variety of settings with diverse populations. Emotional Intelligence with empathy and understanding of experimental and health psychology Ability to collaborate well with a diverse team of clinicians, researchers, and coordinators Effective communication, presentation, and facilitation skills, personable, and leadership capabilities Strong organizational and project management skills, including maintaining deadlines Excellent problem-solving ability and self-starter mentality Knowledge of human subjects--- ethics and Institutional Review Board (IRB) research protocols is preferred Bilingual is a plus Travel & Remote Work Expectations Candidates must have the ability to travel as well as work remotely. The amount of travel and remote work time can vary by week, but candidates are expected to be able to travel up to 70% of the time on any given week in addition to the following requirements: Must have access to reliable, high-speed internet Flexibility to work occasional weekends and/or after normal business hours will be required based on travel, community events, and other business needs. Available for periodic travel outside of assigned region to support clinical trial education and event needs Must have access to a reliable, operable, and safe vehicle (not to include scooters or motorcycles) Must have and maintain a safe driving record and be willing to submit to a Motor Vehicle Record Check Must show proof of valid vehicle insurance and registration Must possess and maintain a valid Driver---s License Education and Experience Bachelor---s Degree or equivalent Minimum of 2 years of proficient clinical discussions with patients Experience providing informational presentations in a variety of settings Experience starting and completing projects with a high degree of autonomy Physical Requirements This position requires frequent travel, including driving, which may require prolonged periods of sitting (driving) in a vehicle. Prolonged periods of sitting in a vehicle or while at a desk and working on a computer.
