      School of Medicine Dean's Office, Community Practice Division has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Administrative Assistant III, Referral Specialist - Orthopedics, Inverness position.

      Position Summary:
      Responsible for providing efficient, effective, quality customer service through a variety of duties including, but not limited to, referral management, completing internal and external referral processes, obtaining authorization from health plans and other Utilization Management (UM) entities for referrals. Also responsible for entering all referral and authorization information in to EPIC and communicating outcomes to the patients, specialists, and other providers. Complies with established company policies and procedures, HIPAA Privacy Rules and University of Colorado School of Medicine Confidentiality Policy. Ensures clear and timely communication with patients, colleagues and providers in a variety of clinical department(s). Assists in overall department work that may include overflow from other departments and/or locations.
      Position Responsibilities & Essential Duties:
      Essential Duties:

      • Runs daily referral reports to create a work list and monitor referrals in place
      • Processes referrals according to departmental goals and accepted protocols, including referrals from Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Pain Medicine and other departments as directed.
      • Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits from all resources, including eligibility lists or direct contact with insurance companies - e-verification or by telephone
      • Enters referral information into EPIC using correct coding procedures
      • Documents sufficient referral detail into EPIC so it is clear what was requested, what occurred, what was approved and who was notified.
      • Notifies patients of the referral process, authorization decisions; verifies patient understanding
      • Notifies referral provider of authorizations in a timely matter
      • Notifies supervisor of problem referrals where turn-around goals are exceeded or other issues are encountered
      • Acts as a liaison for Managed Care and providers when patients have questions
      • Serves as a clinic information sour regarding managed care and referrals
      • Demonstrates excellent customer service; assists patients and staff to set up services and/or resolve concerns
      • Keeps providers, clinical staff and other referral team members informed of pertinent findings or issues covered
      • Documents accurately and appropriately in EPIC and other relevant systems
      • Successfully meets productivity goals
      • Successfully performs work under pressure in an efficient and organized manner
      • Maintains strict confidentiality
      • Performs all other duties/responsibilities as assigned

                      Minimum Qualifications:

                      • High school diploma or equivalent
                      • 3 years medical office experience, with at least 1 year of that being referral experience

                        Substitution: combination of related education and experience may be considered.

                          Salary and Benefits:
                          The hiring range (or budgeted range) for this position begins at $44,052 to $48,696 per year.
                          The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
                          The above salary rate represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate at the time of posting.
                          This position is eligible for overtime compensation.
