Access Center Specialist

Job Description:

Processes interactions with physicians and providers throughout the health system and outside facilities. Facilitates workflows with providers. Ensures legal and regulatory compliance with admission procedures.

Work Schedule: Full Time Days

Answers incoming and initiates outgoing calls to facilitate response for transfers or consults including critical patients. Creates appointments for external partners for time sensitive patients.

Arranges admissions and transfers according to DocLine procedures. Creates and updates patients' pre-admissions, insurance, and demographics.

Conducts interviews with referring physicians to identify whether an external transfer is emergent or non-emergent. Establishes conference calls between referring physicians and attending physicians to obtain clinical acceptance or denial of a transfer or to facilitate a consultation for patient care. Conferences nurses for report on transferring patients.

Notifies inpatient units regarding the estimated time of arrival of transfers. Adds and updates records in the database. Works with staff to facilitate admissions and transfers. Provides a report to the oncoming shift. Assists with training of staff as requested. Completes tasks as delegated by the shift Lead RN and RN co-workers in the room within the scope of DocLine procedures.

Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.


  • Credentials:
  • Minimum Required Education: High school diploma or GED.
    Required Licensure/Certification: None required.
    Minimum Experience: 1 year in a healthcare related field.

The pay range for this position is: $15.40 - $22.53 / hour. Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience. An annual bonus may be paid to eligible employees based upon organizational and individual performance.
