The major goal of this position is to find a novel therapeutic target for vascular calcification. This position is responsible for characterizing genetically modified mice and cell lines to elucidate the molecular mechanism of vascular calcification. The person will remove genes in the entire genome of cells using CRISPR (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats) gene editing to examine which gene participates in the pathogenesis of vascular calcification.
