The hiring range for this position is $53,046 - $69,210/Annually

The salary range for this position is $53,046 - $74,256/Annually

Department Information

The Library and Cultural Services Departments vision is to empower an environment of lifelong learning and cultural enrichment by stimulating learning and literacy, inspiring creativity, and integrating arts, culture and history into the lives of Aurorans. We have two divisions within the department: Library and Cultural Services, both offering a variety of free programs and services to the community.

Library Services

* 6 locations * Books, CDs, DVDs, magazines * Database and language learning programs * Public computers * Study space * Retirement centers and community events and programs or activities for all ages

Cultural Services

* Aurora History Museum * Aurora Fox Theater * Bicentennial Arts Center * The Show Wagon * Art in Public Places collection (over 240 commissioned pieces around the city)

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

This position manages a 6 person team along with managing the youth services programming for all Aurora Public Library branches across the city!

* Planning, implementing, and overseeing youth services programing * Preparing reports * Creating staffing schedules and plans * Administering andtracking budgets and expenditures * Providing and implementing policy and procedurerecommendations * Responding to difficult and complex customer service issues which may involve juvenile patrons * Responsible for managing youth services staff - this includesconducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring,discipline, and termination procedures * Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education:

* Master's Degree in library science

Experience:

* 3 years of professional librarian experience * Lead or supervisory experience is preferred * Youth Services library experience preferred

Knowledge:

* Knowledge of the principles, organization, and practices of library service * Background in specialized children's and youth resource materials * Library classification system * Routine software/computer systems including the internet, email, word processing, spreadsheets, and inventory/customer transaction systems

Skills:

* Strong interpersonal skills * Skills in effective decision making * Problem solving skills

Abilities:

* Ability to deal with stressful situations with tact and diplomacy * Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens * Exercise good judgment in difficult and/or tense situations * Deal with stressful situations with tact and diplomacy * Communicate with diverse customers/staff of all ages in a professional, age and culturally, appropriate manner * follow oral and written instructions; work shifts, including some nights, and weekends * Use general office equipment, computers, calculators, and copy/fax machine * Ability to speak a second language a plus

WORKING CONDITIONS

Essential Personnel:

* When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

Physical Demands:

* Light physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 30 pounds * Frequent hand/eye coordination for operation of office equipment * Vision for reading and interpreting reports and data analysis and preparation * Frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communication with employees and citizens * Considerable walking and standing; frequent pushing, pulling, and climbing * Some speech and hearing to maintain communications with other employees and citizens

Work Environment:

* Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment; occasionally works nights and weekend

Equipment Used:

* Frequently uses standard office equipment including computer, calculator, multi-line telephones, and copy/fax machines * This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
