CCA's service area includes more than 680,000 residents in Arapahoe, Adams, and Denver counties, and its student population reflects the broad diversity of this area. The college offers more than 90 degrees and certificate programs for students seeking to enhance their current skill set, pursue employment, or transfer to a four-year college or university upon graduation.

CCA serves this diverse student population through innovations in instruction and student support founded on principles of equity and inclusivity. The Arts & Communication Department is continually working to refine its pedagogy, practice, and assessment to improve outcomes for all students, particularly those with marginalized or minoritized identities. The Arts & Communication Department's mission is to strive to help students develop and further hone their critical analysis skills, performance abilities, leadership potential and execution of the creative process in preparation for the dynamic academic, professional and intercultural contexts of the 21st century.

With a strong foundation in Inclusive Excellence and student-centering practices, the Arts program offers degrees and certificates in Art History and Studio Art. We offer a rigorous foundation in core areas of both traditional and experimental media, including drawing, digital design and photography, and creativity. In Art History, we prepare our students to develop the knowledge and skills to understand art in historical and cultural contexts; appreciate artistic diversity; and analyze art based on form, context, and medium. The Studio Art curriculum focuses on experimentation and innovation; critical thinking; art and community; and multidisciplinary approaches. Our goal is to prepare critical thinkers and socially active and conscious students ready for academic transfers and/or careers in the creative field.

The successful candidate must embrace and exemplify the college values of respect, collaboration, quality, access, diversity and inclusion at all levels of engagement. This person must be familiar with the issues facing the art professional today; be skillful in the use of technology in education and in art fields; be fully committed to equity diversity and inclusion; and show passion for teaching and commitment to student success. In addition to teaching courses in the Art History and/or Studio Art programs, this person will participate in a variety of institutional initiatives and activities; serve on committees; be and active member in the Academic Affairs division; and represent the college, Academic Center, and the department in assigned groups and tasks DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Teach drawing and visual concepts design courses (particularly 3-D design) * Implement a progressive art and instruction methodology that balances conceptual and technical content with an expanded media approach * Implement an art and instruction progressive methodology that balances conceptual and technical content with an expanded media approach * Facilitate courses in online, hybrid, remote, and face-to-face modalities * Practice a culture of academic excellence and culturally relevant pedagogy based on the Five Tenets of Community College of Aurora Teachers * Design creative and original courses, lessons, and assessments * Incorporate high impact practices into pedagogy such as: service learning activities, collaborative projects, e-portfolios, internships, etc. * Include student centered practices within teaching and course preparation such as student feedback, student experiences, and/or student learning outcomes * Effectively navigate classroom dynamics when issues of equity arise with ability to recognize historical contributions to inequities from the academic discipline * Actively engage in assessment of student learning and utilize disaggregated quantitative and qualitative data to inform changes in teaching and learning practices * Incorporate and make effective use of technology in courses and program activities * Establish and cultivate partnerships with external stakeholders, including local high schools, as well as other academic departments and institutional units and offices * Support the department chair with activities related to program review, curriculum changes, assessment of student learning, budgeting, scheduling, etc. * Engage in professional development activities related to the program content and pedagogy * Be an active serving member of the college community by participating in committees, initiatives, and meetings

Essential Qualifications:

* MFA or Master's Degree in related field * At least 1year of teaching experience in college-level art and design courses * Industry experience with a professional portfolio * Proven experience using diverse perspectives from historically marginalized populations to inform program design, curriculum design, and lesson planning * Evidence of student-centered and student-empowering teaching practices, particularly related to incorporating the diverse experiences of students, course curriculum and content * Experience navigating departmental relationships and classroom dynamics when issues of equity arise with ability to recognize historical contributions to inequities from the academic discipline * Demonstrated strong administrative and interpersonal skills

Anticipated starting salary range is $44,227.00-$63,238.00. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate to include education level and experience, balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan. Leave and holiday benefits are also included.
