About the team. 

The vocational program at AuMHC provides supported employment services to individuals with mental health and substance use challenges starting at the age of 15. Employment Specialists support job seekers in exploring and identifying job goals. Employment specialist also collaborate with teams of other employment specialists, peer specialists, therapists, case managers, and various agencies to support clients in meeting their employment goals.

About the role.

The primary responsibility of an Employment Specialist is to assist clients in obtaining and maintaining competitive community based employment that is consistent with their vocational goals. Vocational services are currently being provided in a hybrid of remote, in the office, and community setting due to Covid-19. Typically this role is based primarily out in the community, with 65% of the time spent meeting with client and developing new employer partnerships.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage clients by establishing collaborative relationships and assist clients in obtaining and maintaining competitive community based employment.
  • Assess long/short term employment goals and evaluate work, educational, criminal, developmental history and financial responsibilities.
  • With client consent, provide education and support to family, friends and potential employers regarding clients' needs and abilities when/if applicable.
  • Develop an individual employment plan (IEP) with client input, behavioral health treatment team, DVR counselor when appropriate, family members, and friends.
  • Conduct individualized job development and job search activities.
  • Within thirty days of program intake, support clients making employer contacts by applying for jobs, or learning more about jobs available in the community.
  • Provide individualized follow-along supports to assist clients in maintaining employment.
  • Negotiate workplace accommodations when necessary.
  • Participate in assigned meetings for continuity of care and to increase employment sustainability.
  • Attend community meetings with clients, job coaching or job developing.

About you.

The ideal candidate will be compassionate, have strong interpersonal skills, be a self-starter and have the ability to multi-task between client needs, employer needs, and reporting requirements.  Having the ability to look at clients barriers to employment positively and assist in developing appropriate employment opportunities with community businesses. The right person for this role will hold true to the belief that anyone is capable of finding and sustaining employment regardless of their mental health challenges or criminal background.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in psychology, social work, counseling, vocational rehabilitation, or related fields.
  • Six months to one year's experience with job development and/or vocational rehabilitation with similar population.
  • Six months experience in social work, human service, or mental health.
  • Preferred: Two years of experience with job development and/or vocational rehabilitation with similar population.
  • Valid Colorado Driver's License with a driving record that meets organization's requirements.
  • Ability to work with community partners and navigate relationships
  • Ability to work independently and creatively.
  • Ability to problem solve and demonstrate flexibility.
  • Excellent communication skills with understanding of intercultural communications.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office programs and internet-based computer programs.

Compensation, Benefits & Perks.

Salary for this role (based on experience and company equity):

  • $16.50 - $18.00 hourly

Additional Compensation Opportunities:

  •  Language Differential Pay (For Bilingual Candidates): 5% of base salary up to $3,000/year
