Veterinary Critical Care Technician Colorado Animal Specialty &
Emergency (CASE) in Boulder, CO, is a leading provider of specialty
and 24-hour emergency veterinary services in Boulder. Our

medical professionals, including board-certified specialists who

relationships. We are currently seeking Critical Care Technicians
to join our team! General Overview: Our Critical Care Technicians
are responsible for the care and treatment of unstable/critically
ill patients, triaging emergency patients, and monitoring
hospitalized pets. They operate under the supervision of various
specialists, the staff manager, emergency doctor, and department
shift supervisor. This is an overview of the position and is not
limited to the duties listed below. Location: - Boulder, CO
Compensation: - Registered Veterinary Technicians - $25 - $34 based
on experience and skills assessment - Veterinary Technician
Specialists - $35 - $40 based on experience and skills assessment
Anticipated Schedule: - Full Time - Tuesday - Friday - 8am-6pm
Duties & Responsibilities: - Conduct advanced triage of incoming
phone calls by assessing clinical urgency, utilizing established
protocols, and reviewing relevant medical records to support timely
and accurate prioritization of patient care. - Demonstrate
proficiency in advanced veterinary medical math, including accurate
calculation of drug dosages, fluid rates, constant rate infusions
(CRIs), and nutritional requirements. Including and not limited to:
Catecholamines, inotropes, anti-coagulants - Acquire, prepare, and
ship laboratory specimens along with running automated CBCs,
preparation of blood films to perform manual differentials and
platelet counts, running various chemistries, coagulation tests,
and collect, evaluate, and report urinalysis results. - General
nursing care such as: accurately obtaining and assessing patient
vitals (temperatures, pulses/heart rate, respiration, blood
pressure, pain score, etc.), auscultation of the lungs, prepare and
administer nutrition - Perform general venipuncture,
peripheral/central/arterial catheter placement and maintenance -
Establishing and maintaining airways (ET tube, tracheostomy, etc.).
- Oxygen administration techniques: oxygen cages, nasal O2,
high-flow nasal oxygen. - Initiating and monitoring mechanical
ventilation. - Administering emergency drugs and CRIs under
veterinary supervision. - Blood product administration (whole
blood, plasma, albumin, etc.). - Fluid therapy including shock dose
calculations and continuous monitoring. - Induction and monitoring
of anesthesia using advanced parameters - Preparing for and
assisting with surgical procedures (e.g. thoracocentesis, chest
tube placement, etc.). - Post-op recovery: monitoring pain, vitals,
and complications. - Wound management and bandage placement (Robert
Jones, splints, wet-to-dry dressings). - Chemotherapy preparation
and administration (using PPE and biohazard safety protocols). -
Induction, surgical skin preparation, monitor and recovery of
surgical patients for minor surgical procedures (ie. Chest tube
placement, peritoneal drain, etc.) - Admitting and discharging
patients, client communication and education, answering phone calls
and scheduling appointments - Cleaning, stocking, general
organization, and maintenance of ICU/Isolation equipment and
supplies Qualifications: - Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or
Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) or Registered Veterinary
Technician (RVT) with at least 2 years of applicable experience -
Knowledge of basic veterinary practices, procedures and terminology
- Ability to appropriately handle, lift and restrain animals (dogs,
cats) and stand for long periods of time. - Demonstrate proper and
safe venipuncture, using aseptic technique and the ability to place
a peripheral IV catheter, using aseptic technique - Ability to
communicate well with other CASE staff members - Strong written and
verbal communication skills - Fluent English skills (speaking &
reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a
plus! - Ability to multi-task and produce quality work while making
