Progressive Care Unit (MSPCU) - University of Colorado Hospital,
Aurora, CO This 36-bed unit is a part of the Critical Care Division
and follows the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses model
of progressive care as part of the continuum of critical care. Its
patient populations are diverse with systemic imbalances including,
but not limited to: pulmonary, cardiac, electrolyte instabilities,
sepsis, and surgical. Specific diagnoses include: cardiothoracic
surgery, valve replacement, aortic repairs, revascularization,
breast flaps, DKA, ETOH withdrawal, respiratory distress, COPD
exacerbation, CHF exacerbation, GI bleed, new or chronic cardiac
arrhythmias, sepsis, post-codes and emergency upgrades, and
temp/permanent pacemakers. \u202FWe receive downgrades from the
ICU, upgrades from med/surg, direct admissions from the ED and
outside facilities, and discharge patients about 40% of the time,
otherwise they are transferred to their next appropriate level of
care. This allows for increased variety of skill and a broad
knowledge base expected of every team member. Typical nurse to
patient ratios are 3:1 both day and night. Shift - ROTATING 1-year
critical care experience 13 week assignments available now -
extensions options Requirements: CO RN license or eNLC privileges
BSN preferred BLS and ACLS BLS and ACLSthrough the American Heart
Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional
Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS and ACLS preferred
card must be good through sixty days of hire. All life support
certification cards must be issued by either the American Heart
Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional
Rescuer. (American Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer is only
good upon hire and all renewals will need to be through an American
Heart Association sanctioned course.) Job Duties: Plans,
implements, and evaluates patient care plans based on patient
assessment to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources.
Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as
appropriate. Collaborates as needed across disciplines to
coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge,
referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs. Evaluates
learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family
education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and
circumstances. Effectively delegates patient care to ancillary
personnel. May precept student nurses and new hires. Within scope
of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and
the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work
in a fast paced environment, and take appropriate action. Follows
Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as
required. Due to Point of Care Testing duties associated with this
position, upon hire, a copy of highest level of education (diploma,
degree, or transcripts) would be required to present to the hiring
