Do you have what it takes?Additional InformationDepartment: ECMOHours per week: 36, eligible for benefitsShift: NightsJob OverviewThe Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Specialist provides extracorporeal life support services to patients who require mechanical support for respiratory, cardiac and/or circulatory failure. The ECMO Specialist also provides direct patient nursing care by floating into one or more of the following areas: Acute Care, Critical Care, Emergency/Network of Care, and/or Ambulatory clinical areas; builds and maintains relationships with multidisciplinary healthcare providers; and collects, monitors, and reports on quality of care outcomes and measures.ResponsibilitiesPOPULATION SPECIFIC CARE

  • Adult - > 18yrs to 65yrsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAn employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.
    • Maintains and manages the ECMO circuit in accordance with hospital standards, to include responding to all ECMO pages and participating in ECMO cannulation and decannulation within the intensive care units. Manages disruptions in ECMO flow during planned and emergent disruptions, circuit changes and trials off ECMO.
    • Maintains and manages the continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) circuit when placed in conjunction within the ECMO circuit, to include initiation, maintenance and discontinuation, as well as, closely monitoring and managing fluid and electrolyte balance.
    • Delivers patient and family centered care in one or more clinical areas while incorporating developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive, evidence based care practices and methodologies. Anticipates and responds to changes in patient outcomes in the provision of care.
    • Communicates and advocates patient values, preferences and expressed needs as part of the implementation of care plan, evaluation of care and assessment of patient/family learning needs.
    • Build and maintains strong working relationships with multidisciplinary healthcare providers to provide individualized patient/family care and education while minimizing risks to the patient during transitions of care.
    • Researches, compiles, and analyzes data and prepares case records, reports, and correspondence to facilitate communication, clinical decision making, error prevention, and care coordination.
    • Collects, monitors, and reports on quality of care outcomes and measures; provides input into the continuous evaluation and improvement of internal quality and safety processes, procedures, and performance measures.
    • Ensures compliance with clinical policies, procedures, and best practices in order to minimize the risk of harm to patients and providers.
    • Researches, identifies, and implements evidence based practice to improve the quality of care provided to patients/families.

          • EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Nursing
          • EXPERIENCE: Four years of experience in a critical care area.
          • CERTIFICATION(S): BLS, PALS, ACLS, and Magnet recognized certification.
