Job Description
The Instrument Technician is responsible for the repair and
maintenance of electrical motors, drives, and electrical systems
associated with automotive emissions sampling and facility
operations.
- Responsible for repair and maintenance of electrical motors,
drives, electrical systems associated with automotive emissions
sampling and facility operations
- Responsible for calibrating all related automotive
instrumentation (dynamometer, emissions analyzers, and specialty
exhaust sampling equipment) in accordance with the Code of Federal
Regulations (CFR) and ISO standards
- Responsible for preventive maintenance of dynamometers, drive,
and electrical systems
- Responsible for integrating new equipment, advancing lab
ability, and advancing automation systems
- Maintain building and testing related motors, drives, and
electrical systems
- Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, or
engineering instructions for assembling electronics units, applying
knowledge of electronic theory and components
- Test electrical circuits or components for continuity, using
electrical test equipment Become proficient at using the test cell
automation systems
- Test pipe or tubing joints or connections for leaks, using
pressure gauge or soap-and-water solution
- Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, working with
manufacturers or field representatives as necessary to procure
replacement parts
- Adjust or replace defective or improperly functioning circuitry
or electronics components
- Maintain system logs or manuals to document testing or
operation of equipment
- Provide customer support and education, working with users to
identify needs, determine sources of problems, or to provide
information on product use
- Write reports or record data on testing techniques, laboratory
equipment, or specifications to assist engineers
- Procure parts and maintain inventory and related
documentation
- Reassemble and test equipment following repairs
- Inspect and test systems to verify system compliance with plans
and specifications or to detect and locate malfunctions
- Responsible for commissioning new equipment, developing
necessary training materials for related staff employees
- Follow documented procedures to properly execute calibration of
instrumentation equipment
- Perform data quality checks on calibrated instrumentation
- Responsible to become proficient at using calibration
automation systems
- Setup data channel configurations for the instrumentation
equipment
- Responsible to work with engineering and technician staff to
revolve all issues
- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in
matters of significance
- Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and variable schedule(s) as
necessary
- Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned
- Associates degree (or equivalent experience) or greater in
electrical, automotive, engineering, or science-related field
- Experience with electrical motor/drive repair and maintenance,
wiring, electrical troubleshooting, and facility maintenance
- Experience with analytical instrumentation, engine or vehicle
repair or maintenance, and/or gas transfer systems preferable
- Effective at communicating operational issues and test quality
issues to engineers and manager Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Associates degree (or equivalent experience) or greater in
electrical, automotive, engineering, or science-related field
- Experience with electrical motor/drive repair and maintenance,
wiring, electrical troubleshooting, and facility maintenance
- Experience with analytical instrumentation, engine or vehicle
repair or maintenance, and/or gas transfer systems preferable
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities
- High level of integrity, ethics, and drive towards customer
service with strong poise, tact, and diplomacy
- Strong orientation towards teamwork
- Effective at communicating operational issues and test quality
issues to engineers and managers
- Strong Verbal & Written Communication skills
- Desire to work in fast paced, rapidly changing and results
oriented environment
- High ability to manage time to prioritize competing tasks and
demands being able to successfully resolve them
- Maintain vehicle laboratory, engine laboratory, and facility
equipment
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science
and technology, including applying principles, techniques,
procedures, and equipment to the design and production of
facilities equipment and systems
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved
in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings,
and models
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing services
such as needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services,
and evaluation of satisfaction
- Ability to approach problems in a scientific manner and
implement resolutions with minimal guidance
- Able to use motorized equipment to move vehicles and
materials
- Able to bend, squat, lift up to 50 lbs. stand or sit for up to
two hours
- Use basic hand and power tools to maintain vehicles and
laboratory equipment Computer Skills
- Skilled use of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and
Excel
Salary Range - $30-40/hr based on experience
