Summary: The Clinical Education Specialist is a Registered Nurse
who collaborates with the health care team to ensure safe,
effective, evidence-based and quality patient care in the
ambulatory/clinic setting. The Clinical Education Specialist is
responsible for the design and implementation of education programs
and professional development of ambulatory staff - focused on
clinical outcomes, best practices, workflow optimizations, and
staff/practice development. The Clinical Education Specialist
reports to the Director of Quality and will work closely with other
Clinical Educators, the Quality Department, Regional Directors,
Practice Leadership and/or in our Community Practice Primary Care
and Specialty areas. The Clinical Education Specialist ensures that
all competencies and skills are current and relevant for the clinic
staff, while acting as a change agent, leader, and role model with
the goal of having all clinical staff work at the top of their
licenses/certifications. The Clinical Education Specialist will aim
to reduce fragmentation through best practice education and skill
competencies in order to ensure that all ambulatory services are of
the highest quality and implemented throughout the CU School of
Medicine Community Practice clinics. Key Responsibilities:
Facilitates clinical precepting schedules with local clinic
leadership, intermittent follow-up, and competency assessment to
clinical staff. Onboarding of new employees including socializing
and integrating an employee to the organization with a focus on
retention and growth. Creates individualized orientation plans to
guide new employees to job competencies or existing employees to
changing roles/responsibilities based on analytical, evaluative,
and interpretive assessment and critical thinking skills. Ensures
that processes are in place for documentation of orientation and
other educational activities; ensures employee files meet CU
Community Practice and all regulatory requirements. Available to
act as a subject matter expert for healthcare personnel including
but not limited to Medical Assistants, Patient Care Technicians,
and Front Desk Staff utilizing discretion and independent
judgement. Provides advice and guidance to Medical Assistants,
Patient Care Technicians, and Front Desk Staff regarding office
practices and operating procedures. Assists the Director of Quality
and other Clinical Educators with workload management and process
improvement projects to ensure each clinic is effectively
supported. Educates technical and patient care staff in the use of
new equipment, and instruments; coordinates in-service training and

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in nursing and active,
unrestrictive Registered Nurse licensure. At least three (3) years
of clinical nursing experience. At least one (1) year of experience
with clinical or community education, ambulatory care nursing.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree, accreditation or
certification in specialty care, ambulatory care, education.
Preceptor or educational experience focused on adult learners. Five
(5) years of clinical experience in medical office setting,
ambulatory care. Nursing certification in specialty care area. EPIC
experience. Bilingual, Spanish-speaking. CPR Instructor
certification. Conditions of Employment: Registered Nurse (RN),
State of Colorado. Current healthcare provider level BLS
certification, American Heart or American Red Cross. Be able to
perform the clinical and/or technical competencies on which
education is provided. Must be able to travel to alternate
locations as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong
organizational and personal skills. Strong medical terminology
knowledge and skills. Strong knowledge of value-based care and
risk-based coding procedures in Primary Care. Strong knowledge of
medication and injection procedures. Knowledge or CPT & ICD-10
procedures. Ability to use various types of equipment for
examination and treatment procedures within scope of practice.
Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to identify
problems and collaborate for solutions. Ability to adhere to all
policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for
safety, attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance. Must have
strong presentation skills to showcase credibility and

for this position has been established as $69,511 to $93,145. The
above hiring range represents the University's good faith and
reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the
