Writer.Jobs in this career family involve development, marketing,
and management of messaging to both internal and external parties.
Functions include communications; publications; brand management;
writing; editing; proofreading and communication projects
management.Professionals at this level are responsible for
exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability,
and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic,
administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work
involves creating, integrating, applying, and sharing knowledge
directly related to a professional field.Nature of WorkWe are
recruiting for the role of Development Writer at the University of
Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Reporting to the Director of
Communications, the Development Writer works on a wide variety of
projects simultaneously under tight deadlines with members of the
advancement office, and with the communications team. This position
will contribute to and collaborate on a range of creative projects,
specifically using writing skills to create gift proposals and
templates, stewardship impact reports, one-pagers, publications,
brochures, newsletters, event collateral, scripting and talking
points, web content, mass email communications, acknowledgement
letters and other print and electronic materials for internal and
external audiences. S/he will support advancement colleagues in
content creation for fundraising, events, stewardship, the grateful
patient program, campaign, and related areas.Essential Duties
- Primary duty is to research and write and/or edit materials in
support of fundraising priorities, including web content, mass
email, web/magazine articles and stories, brochures, event
collateral, presentations, biographies and a wide range of other
print and electronic communications.
- Interview donors, faculty, staff, students, alumni and others
for stories, articles, publications, advertisements, proposals, and
other purposes.
- Assist communications team in developing and producing print
and online content that conveys complex topics clearly and
persuasively, and that presents concise rationales for
philanthropy.
- Proofread and provide editorial suggestions on collateral
produced by development officers and other colleagues. Make changes
and edits to existing pieces, often incorporating changes from
multiple parties simultaneously.
- Serve as a primary developer of mass email content.
- Collaborate with communications team to develop, post, and
measure the success of web stories and site content.
- Much of this work entails the use of established CU Anschutz
Medical Campus identity/brand standards, AP Stylebook editorial
standards and the University of Colorado editorial style
guide.
- Develop/design and update dynamic presentations in PowerPoint
and related formats, including but not limited to Prezi.
- Assist with updating and selecting photos and visuals for
digital communications, including the website and intranet.
- Assist communications team with organization of finished
project files.
- Other duties as assigned.This description is a summary only and

Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a
bachelor's degree in a communications field, or an equivalent
combination of education and experience may substitute for the
degree requirement.
- One (1) to two (2) years of experience of communications and/or
writing in a professional setting.Substitution: A combination of
education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be
substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year
basis.Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) four (4) years of experience of communications and/or
writing in a professional setting.
- Background and experience in a university, nonprofit, medical
institution, or development/fundraising setting.
- Experience working with content and design for intranet and
e-newsletter systems.
- Experience using web CMS, such as WordPress or SharePoint.
- Experience with Photoshop, InDesign, PowerPoint and/or
Prezi.
- Experience with digital communications tasks such as broadcast
email, website development and management, and
analytics.Competencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong and demonstrated ability to write and edit compelling,
clear, and accurate content for diverse audiences and for general
publication. Ability to easily change writing styles to fit
audience, voice, and purpose.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and internet
navigation tools.
- Strong knowledge of business English, grammar, and punctuation
style. Fluency with AP and/or Chicago style.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities in a
fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Basic understanding of communications and design principles and
landscape.
- Experience with effective communications and design strategies
for print, web, and social media application.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with
donors, staff, faculty, and students.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and complete complex projects
and to work under tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently or collaborate as part of a
team.Salary and BenefitsThe salary range ( or hiring range ) for
this position has been established at $50,000-$55,000.The salary of
the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a
variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity,
experience, education, specialty, and training.The above salary
range ( or hiring range ) represents the University's good faith
and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at
